tweak is (yet another) Twitter client for Mac OS X 10.5.
The concept: tweak is there when you need it, and (almost) hidden when you don't. It uses one UI for new-tweet popups and tweet browsing. Instead of shoe-horning UI that doesn't make sense into your dock or your menu-bar, tweak lives in unused space in the corner of your screen.
After some soul searching on the subject, and because I don't have enough energy to whip up an invite system, I've decided to scrap plans for a private beta and just launch a very, very, very early public beta. So here it is, with the caveat that—well—it's a very, very, very early public beta.
The download:
New in Beta 02
Name change: Formerly Tweezer, now Tweak
1 click direct messages, @replies
Click on a username to view only that persons tweets. (Currently only works if you're following that person.)
Moved scrollbar out from edge of screen.
Skinned all remaining aqua controls.
Vanishes immediately upon clicking outside the main window.
Planned for Beta 03
Option to display on left or right of screen.
Option to work in either Rollover mode or Click mode.
Much, much more...
Fixed in Beta 02
Occasionally brings the wrong application in attempting to reactivate the previously active application on fly-out.
Known Issues:
No cursor in the username/password input fields.
Links to usernames with underlines in them are unclickable.
Scrolling through lists of tweets isn't very good. The current scrolling system is mostly a placeholder until I figure out how I want to tackle it. It works, but it's not very slick. Also, you can scroll past the last tweet in a list.
Text "flashes" from time to time. Especially when scrolling.
Switching between multiple panels rapidly can cause tweets to get stuck on the screen. Quit and restart to clear.
If someone @replies to someone and puts a colon immediately following the @ name, i.e. "@vananything: dude!", and you've never received a tweet from the person being replied to before, the colon part can get tacked onto the in-reply-to line, i.e. "in reply to vananything:"
Their aren't nearly enough error messages, yet. When things go wrong you often won't hear about it.
Doesn't appear in Force Quit menu. An unavoidable byproduct of hiding the Dock icon, but also a pain in the butt for beta software. Use the Activity Monitor application to force quit tweak, if necessary. (Though it's been fairly stable for me, so far.)
Graphics sometimes flicker when there's movement on screen behind tweak. Core Animation appears to have issues with semi-transparent windows. This may not be solvable.
"Multiple Accounts..." option in the tweet entry area doesn't work. I knew I forgot something...
And many more. Collect them all.
Feedback:
Questions? Comments? New and exciting bugs to report? Please check the list above, then email me. Or @vananything on twitter.
And remember: This is early, early, early beta. Verging on alpha. I've never had this app do anything too horrible to me, my family, or my computer, but I make no guarantees.
